LAWTON, Okla. – After opening the weekend with two wins a piece on Friday, the Aggie tennis program continued their success by both taking down Metro State on Saturday as the men won their match 6-1 and the women won 5-0.Â
The Aggie women opened things up with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to clinch the point.
Sarah Frendo and
Sara Petric beat their opponents at No. 1 6-4, while
Rebeka Velasova and
Alisa Savina won 6-3 at No. 2.
In singles, Cameron got wins at No. 1-4 to earn the 5-0 win. All five matches were decided in two sets, with the most competitive battle coming at No. 1, where Frendo beat her opponent 6-1, 7-6. Both Savina and Petric won with scores of 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3 and 4, while Velasova won at No. 2 6-3, 6-1.
The No. 24 ranked Cameron men were a perfect 3-0 in their doubles matches with
Vinicius Santos and
Julen Gutierrez at No. 1 and
Przemyslaw Zielinski and
Mritunjay Badola at No. 2 both winning 6-2. In the three spot,
Oscar del Granado and
Pierre Marion took down their opponents 6-1.
Metro State's only point in the men's match came at No. 3 singles, where del Granado fell 6-4, 6-3. Four of the five other singles battles were won in two sets, while at No. 2, Badola had to go to three sets, but won 7-6, 5-7, 6-2.
The Aggie women are now 3-6 on the season, while the men improve to 8-3 and have won five straight matches. Both teams will look to carry that momentum into next week as they both face two tough teams in West Florida on March 15 and Indianapolis on March 16. Both matches will be played in San Antonio, Texas.
