DENTON, Texas – The Aggie softball team completed a three-game sweep Texas Woman's with 9-1 and 4-1 wins on Friday, marking their sixth straight series win.
Cameron opened game one with a single run in the top of the first as
Breley Webb drove in
Khmari Edwards on a groundout to second base. A TWU solo homer in the bottom of the frame tied the game at one run apiece.
After a scoreless second, the Aggies opened things up by scoring seven straight runs to take an 8-1 lead through five innings of play.
Brenna Busby recorded a sacrifice fly in the third, and then in the fourth,
Callie Busby hit a two-run homer to center field to give the Aggies a 4-1 lead. CU then struck for a four-run inning in the top of the fifth that was capped by a two RBI double by
Madyson Marvulli.
In the seventh,
Alyssa Osterdock added one more insurance run by hitting a solo homer to left field, giving the Aggies their ninth run of the game.
Rylee Willmon had just the one blemish in the first inning, the solo home run. She finished the game giving up just the one run on four hits and one walk for her eighth win of the season.
Turner Whorton pitched a hitless seventh to end the game.
Edwards, C. Busby,
Abbey Warren, and Osterdock each had a pair of hits, while Busby drove in three runs and scored two more herself; Osterdock and Webb also scored a pair of runs.
B. Busby led game two off with a bang, hitting her 13th home run of the season to lead off the first inning. The Aggies then manufactured another run in the next inning, with
Raley Long coming in to score from third while
Kaylyn Smith was caught in a rundown between first and second.
In the third, B. Busby struck again, leading off the frame with her 14th long ball of the year. Later in the inning, Edwards came in to score all the way from second base on a single by
Kylie French to give the Aggies a 4-0 advantage.
Texas Woman's scored their first run on a RBI double in the sixth, but it was little too late, as CU held on for the 4-1 victory.
Bethany Hines earned her 12th win of the season and the 51st of her career, going 5.1 innings and giving up just the one run on five hits and two walks; she struck out three in the game. Willmon came in to finish things off, giving up one hit and striking out one in her 1.2 innings in the circle.
B. Busby led the Aggies with two hits, both solo homers, while Edwards, Webb, and French added the other three hits for CU.
Cameron is now 29-12 on the season and 16-8 in Lone Star Conference play.
Next up for CU will be a doubleheader against No. 2 Central Oklahoma on Tuesday, April 16, at McMahon Field. Game one is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
