COMMERCE, Texas – The Cameron softball team were overmatched in game one of their three game series at No. 8 Texas A&M-Commerce on Friday, managing just two hits in a 10-0 loss.
The Aggies two hits came off the bats of
Khmari Edwards and
Callie Busby;
Abbey Warren reached base via a walk. Both hits came in the top of the first inning, which was CU's best chance at getting on the board in the five-inning game.
In the top of the first, Edwards singled with one out, and then two batters later C. Busby singled to center field, putting runners on first and third with two outs. A double steal allowed both runners to advance a bag, but
Kylie French popped up to end the inning and the threat.
Texas A&M-Commerce needed just two innings to do their damage at the plate. The top-10 ranked team scored three runs in the first inning and then added a seven spot in the fourth, giving them the run-rule advantage.
CU freshman
Breley Webb had one of her worst outings of the spring, giving up eight runs on 12 hits for just her second loss on the season. She also struck out three batters and walked one during her 3.1 innings in the circle.
Cameron falls to 19-9 in Lone Star Conference play with the loss, while dropping to 32-13 overall. TAMUC is now 22-6 against league opponents and 36-10 overall.
The Aggies still have a chance to win the series, but will need more offensive production as the two teams play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. Â
