LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron University softball team swept a doubleheader against Angelo State on Friday, improving their win streak to five games with a walk-off 5-4 win in game one and a 4-0 victory in game two.
Â
In game one of the doubleheader, the Aggies struck first when
Callie Busby hit a double off the left field wall to bring home
Khmari Edwards.
          Â
The Rambelles would not only answer in the fourth inning by way of an Avery Zeigler RBI fielder's choice, but also take a 2-1 lead on Jade Strother's RBI double that rattled off the right field wall. ASUÂ would extend their lead to 3-1 thanks to a pair of Aggie errors that lead to Taegan Kirk RBI ground out.
          Â
CU's freshman second baseman Edwards would dig into the box in the bottom of the fourth inning with
Brenna Busby on first. That is when Edwards sent a softball deep over the left field wall to tie the ball game up at three.
          Â
Strother continued her hot day at the plate with a go-ahead RBI single in the top of the sixth inning.
Â
Abbey Warren was able to continue the see-saw scoring of game one when she launched a ball over the left field fence in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game at four.
Â
In the seventh,
Kylie French stood in with runners on second and first and less than two outs and worked a walk to load the bases.
Alyssa Osterdock followed that up with a bases loaded walk to end game one with a 5-4 win.
Â
Breley Webb pitched a solid game for the Aggies, going all seven innings, while giving up three earned runs on five hits and two walks. The freshman also recorded six punch-outs in her seventh win of the year.
Â
In game two, the Aggies got the scoring started via a
Kaylyn Smith RBI single to bring in
Raley Long, which was followed by B. Busby driving in a pair of runs for the Black and Gold in the form of Smith and Warren. Â
Â
Webb hit her fifth home run of the season over the left center field wall in the top of the third to extend the Aggies lead to 4-0 over the Rambelles.
Â
The four runs were all CU would need, as
Bethany Hines went on to pitch a gem going the distance and only allowing just four hits and three walks, with six strikeouts. Her dominating performance earned the junior her 10th win of the season and 49th of her career.
Â
With the pair of wins, the Black and Gold softball team improves to 26-11 overall and 13-7 in league play.
Â
Cameron and Angelo State will wrap up the three-game series on Saturday with the finale. The game time was originally scheduled for 1 p.m. but has since been moved 3 p.m. due to forecasted run in the morning.
