Ram offense overpowers Cameron in doubleheader

SAN ANGELO, Texas – Aggie baseball dropped both games of the doubleheader at No. 11 Angelo State on Saturday, despite finding some success at the plate in game one, launching a trio of homers.

In game one, Cameron looked to bounce back from an 18-1 loss in the series opener on Friday. They got a fast start in the first game on Saturday when Jaylan Prince hit a home run to deep left center field to give the Aggies a 1-0 lead.

Angelo State scored 14 straight with a big 11-run inning in the bottom of the first.

The power was on display for the Aggies as the Black and Gold hit two more home runs, as Jordan Harrison-Dudley clubbed a solo shot to deep center field in the third, and Trey Bigford sent one over the right field wall to lead off the 5th inning.

Later in the frame, CU got another run across the board when Dillon Turney lined a double down the left field line to provide the Aggies with their first multi-run inning of the series. After an Izrael Trevino single scored Turney. Trevino would come around to score on a throwing error after stealing third.

ASU had already scored five more runs in the bottom of the third and two more in the fourth to hold a 21-2 run before CU's four-run fifth.

The Rams added another five runs in the sixth, and after CU added two on a two RBI single by Cooper Edwards in the seventh, took game one 26-8.

In the first inning of game two, the Aggies again struck early when Trevino plated Turney on a single to give the Black and Gold a 1-0 lead after a half inning of play.

That was the only run the Aggies would be able to score in the third game of the series. They only allowed six runs to the powerful Rams' offense in game two of the doubleheader.

Myles Miller turned in a multi-hit game in the second game of the doubleheader as Trevino reached base safely twice via a hit and base on balls.

The Aggies, who are now 15-21 overall and 6-4 in Lone Star Conference play, will look to fend off being swept by No. 11 ASU in the series finale on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
