WACO, Texas – The Cameron University men's tennis team was unable to secure their second Lone Star Conference Tournament title on Saturday, falling to No. 20 MSU Texas 4-2 in the final.

The Aggies, who claimed the regular season championship with a 5-2 win over MSU a few weeks ago, looked like they were on their way to win by taking two out of the three doubles matches.

Cameron's 15th ranked duo of Vinicius Santos and Julen Gutierrez defeated MSU's 24th ranked doubles team 7-5 in the one spot.  

Both the two and three matches went to a tiebreak, with Oscar del Granado and Pierre Marion clinching the point for the Aggies with a 7-6 (7) win at three.

Marion gave the Black and Gold a 2-0 lead after winning his singles match at six by a score of 6-2, 6-1, but MSU wins at four and five evened the match up at two points apiece.

At the No. 2 singles spot, Mritunjay Badola lost by retirement, leaving it up to Santos and Przemyslaw Zielinski to keep CU alive.

The deciding point came at No. 1, which featured a matchup between the second ranked Angel Palacios and the sixth ranked Santos; Santos won the regular season matchup between the two. Santos claimed the first set win 6-3, but Palacios answered with a dominant 6-1 win in the second. The two battled in the third, but ultimately MSU's top man took Saturday's matchup, winning 6-4 to clinch the tournament title.

Cameron, who had won 15 straight matches prior to Saturday's defeat, is now 18-4 on the season. They are currently ranked No. 1 in the South Central Regional Rankings, while MSU is ranked No. 3.
