EDMOND, Okla. – The Cameron University women's tennis team kicked off their fall season at the Central Oklahoma Invitational, which took place Saturday and Sunday.
The invite consisted of two doubles draws and four singles draws, three of which included Aggies. Â
In the singles Draw A, Cameron had
Alisa Savina and
Alex Lopez. Both fell in their first round matchup with Savina losing 6-2, 6-3 to UCO's Adel Byanu-Abidullina and Lopez falling to UCO's Isabella Dunlap, 6-3, 6-2. Savina then went on to lose in the first Backdraw round 6-3, 6-3 to ASU's Ena Ovicina, while Lopez beat NSU's Betka Gombrava 7-5, 6-4 before falling in the seventh place match.
Melany Opolz and
Vasilisa Polunova were the two Aggies in Draw B. Both won their first round match, with Opolz winning 6-4, 6-1 and Polunova winning 6-2, 7-6 against NSU opponents. Both players lost in the second round, but Polunova would go on to win her final match 6-4, 6-3.
In Draw C, Cameron had
Julianne Garcia and
Pilar Jaurena competing. After both players lost in their opening match, Garcia went on to win the backdraw with wins over NSU and ASU opponents. Jaurena ended up taking seventh place with a 6-7, 6-3, 10-4 win over NSU's Belinda Jayaprakash.
Cameron had the pairings of Opolz and Garcia and Savina and Lopez competing in the doubles Draw A, both of which lost in their opening match. Polunova and Jaurena notched an 8-5 win in the first round of the Draw B bracket, but fell in their second match.
The Aggies will be back in action next weekend as both the men and women compete at the Midwestern State Invitational, Sep. 21-22.
