ARLINGTON, Texas – The Cameron women's tennis team wrapped up their fall season at the ITA Regional this past weekend.

ITA Regional Brackets

The Aggies had six individuals and three doubles teams competing in the three-day event.

CU had five of their six players competing in the singles Draw A bracket with all five falling during their first round match. In the consolation bracket, four of their five won one match before being eliminated once again.

Julianne Garcia beat her opponent from Midwestern State 7-5, 6-3 before losing in the second round of the consolation draw. Alisa Savina beat her opponent from UT Tyler 6-3, 6-2 before losing to a UTPB foe in the second round. Alex Lopez beat Kali Hamilton from CSU-Pueblo 7-6, 6-2 before falling to Angelo State's Zoe Gubbels. Melany Opolz won her first match of the consolation, 2-6, 7-5, 10-5 before losing in the second round.

Pilar Jaurena was the lone Aggie in Draw B, and after falling in her first round match, the sophomore lost her first match of the consolation bracket in three sets.

In doubles, Savina and Vasilisa Polunova opened up the bracket with 8-4 and 8-5 wins over opponents from UTPB and DBU before falling to the top seed from ASU 8-3 in the quarterfinals.

Both Opolz and Lopez and Garcia and Jaurena were bounced to the consolation bracket after their first round losses. Opolz and Lopez lost their second round match, but Jaurena and Garcia secured 8-2 and 8-3 wins to make it to the third round of the bracket before losing.

Now that their fall season has ended, the Cameron women can now look ahead to the spring season, which will begin on Jan. 25 with an exhibition at UT Arlington.
