LAWTON – The Cameron men's and women's cross country programs are geared up and ready to take on the rest of the Lone Star Conference as the league hosts their only fall championship on Saturday in San Angelo, Texas.

"The expectation going into Saturday is that we have our best race of the year and improve our individual and team performance," said Cameron head coach Zach Johnson about his teams' outlook for the LSC Championship. "We have trained well and our workouts have gotten better every week but haven't put together a complete meet day yet this fall, so Saturday would be a good time to do that."

Championship Saturday will begin with the men's 8,000 meter race at 9:30 a.m. and the women's 6,000 meter race will follow at 10:30 a.m. The two races will be streamed on the LSC Digital Network both online and via OTT aps on Apple TB, Amazon Fire TV and Roku devices free of charge.

Cameron's men, who place third at the league race a year ago, will face off against the other 14 teams in the conference for the first time this season. Two weeks ago, CU finished fourth at the Blue and Gold Invite in San Angelo, finishing behind West Texas A&M, Dallas Baptist, and Texas A&M-Commerce.

This fall, the Aggie men have ben led by Eduardo Gutierrez, who has three-straight top-5 finishes, including a fifth place finish at ASU's Blue and Gold Invite. Loic Rossignaud has been a solid second for CU, finishing in the top-20 in all three races this fall.

"On the men's side we are finally getting Nino Heluin back in the lineup from injury and he should give us a boost along side Eddie (Gutierrez) and Loic (Rossignaud)."

Heluin is a highly-touted freshman from Dieppe, France who was injured early this fall. He is one of 10 CU student-athletes running in Saturday's race including Gutierrez, Rossignaud, Chris Dunn, Saulo Yoel, Dereck Adames, AJ Espino, Daniel Parra, Justin Hill, and Sebastian Padron-Casadiegos.

Cameron is looking to unseat 2019's champion WT, who has won eight consecutive LSC Championships. The Aggies were voted third in the league's preseason poll.

On the women's side, the Aggies will battle it out with 14 other teams, including four that they ran against at the Blue and Gold Invite, where they placed seventh. Cameron has a first place finish at the Aggie Duels and a second place finish at the Ranger Classic on their fall resume.

Keyanna Patterson has been Johnson's top runner this fall, placing first at the Aggie Duels, seventh at the Ranger race, and 21st two weeks ago in San Angelo. CU will also need quality performances from 2018 All-Conference runner Edna Cheptum, Nancy Jebet, Serah Timbwol, and Jessica Parnell.

"We will have Edna and Nancy back for the women, which we didn't have at the Angelo meet. Our goal for the men and women is to extend our season another two weeks and qualify for the DII National Invitational, which the top-6 teams from the LSC qualify."

Cameron will have a lineup of Patterson, Cheptum, Parnell, Tembwol, Jebet, Vivien Chesire, Violet Torres, Alejandra Collier, and Shianne Taylor running the women's 6K race.

DBU is the reigning champions and have three wins in three races this fall. They were voted first in the LSC preseason poll, while Cameron was picked to finish seventh.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, fans and spectators will not be allowed to attend the championship in person, but live results and the live stream is available free of charge.
