LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron women and men's tennis teams swept a pair of home exhibition matches against Seward County CC on Friday afternoon.

Women – Cameron 6, Seward County CC 1
The Cameron women have gotten off to a rocky start in 2020, losing their first two countable matches of the season last weekend. They built some confidence on Friday, as the took down the Saints 6-1 in their first home match of the year.

In doubles play, the Black and Gold were able to win all three matches, getting a dominant 6-0 win at No. 1 from
Vasilisa Polunova and
Pilar Jaurena and then a 6-2 win from
Julianne Garcia and
Alisa Savina at three and a 6-4 victory at two from
Melany Opolz and
Alex Lopez.

Cameron's success continued into singles play where they won all but the No. 4 match. Polunova dominated her opponent at one, winning 6-1, 6-1, while Opolz won 6-1, 6-3 in the three spot and Jaurena and Garcia both had two-set wins at five and six. Lopez was forced to three sets at No. 2, but came away with the 6-1, 6-7, 10-6 victory.

Men – Cameron 5, Seward County CC 2
The No. 20 ranked Cameron men opened their spring with a 1-1 record last week against Drury and Washburn. Their match against the Saints was a good tune-up before a slate of matches against some of the top JUCO teams in the nation next week.

Cameron opened the match up with a pair of doubles wins to take an early 1-0 lead.
Pierre Marion and
Julen Gutierrez at No. 1 and
Bruno Vietri and
Maycon Dias at No. 2 both earned 6-4 victories, while
Oscar del Granado and
Carlos Vidal fell 6-4 in the three spot.

The Aggies added four more points at two, four, five, and six to earn the 5-2 victory over Seward. Del Granado won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2, while Gutierrez won 6-2, 7-5 at four, Dias won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 5, and
Jesus Villamizar earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 6. Both Vietri at one and Marion at three suffered three-set losses.

Up next:
Cameron's women will be back in action on Saturday, as they play a road match at Northeastern State scheduled for 1 p.m. The men have six days off before their next match, which will be against Collin County CC on Feb. 20 in Plano, Texas.
