OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The Cameron tennis teams split a pair of exhibition matches against Cowley County CC on Monday, their final tune-up before their first official match of the season.

Both teams started out their spring with exhibition loses at Division I UT Arlington, but the Aggie men were able to bounce back with a 6-1 win over the JUCO No. 4 ranked Tigers, while the CU women fell 4-3 their opposition, who is also ranked in the top-5 in the JUCO rankings, on Monday.

The Aggie men took an early 1-0 lead by winning two out of the three doubles matches. Bruno Vietri and Maycon Dias have formed a quick connection and the duo won their match at No. 1 6-1, while Oscar del Granado and Carlos Vidal pulled out the 7-6 win at the two spot.

In singles play, Cameron claimed all but the No. 1 match. Both del Granado and Julen Gutierrez had to go to a third set to win their matches at two and three, while Dias, Vidal, and Jesus Villamizar cruised to two-set wins at four, five, and six, giving the Aggies the 6-1 win.

Unlike the men, CU's women's tennis team started out down 1-0, losing in both the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches. The Black and Gold's lone doubles win came at three, where Alex Lopez and Melany Opolz pulled out the 6-4 win over their Tiger counterparts.
 
Cameron was able to split the singles decisions, with wins at No. 1, No. 2, and No. 4. Vasilisa Polunova claimed a three-set 4-6, 7-6, 10-5 win in the top match, while Lopez also won in three sets, 6-2, 2-6, 10-5, at two. Junior Alisa Savina had the other win, taking down her opponent 7-5, 6-4 at No. 4.
 
While CU's first two matches did not count in the win-loss column, they start counting on Friday, Feb. 7,  when both teams face off against Drury in Springfield, Mo. The Aggies then battle Washburn the next day, Saturday, Feb. 8, in Springfield.
