LAWTON – The Cameron Aggie volleyball team wraps up their non-conference slate of matches for the fall on Tuesday as they visit Northwestern Oklahoma State.
Cameron opened the season with 10 straight non-Lone Star Conference matches before starting league play. Since then, they have played just one match against a non-LSC opponent, Southern Nazarene on Oct. 5. Tuesday's match against the Rangers is their final non-conference tilt before closing out the season with seven straight LSC contests.
LAST TIME OUT
The Aggies are coming off a long road trip where they came away with just one set win in a pair of matches against Western New Mexico and UT Permian Basin. Against the Mustangs, CU out-hit and out-block the home team and for most of three of the four sets. Costly errors late allowed comebacks by WNMU to take the match 3-1. Two days later, the Black and Gold had no answer for a Falcon squad that hit nearly .400 on the attack and had nine service aces in the straight set win.
ABOUT THE AGGIES
Cameron's 19th straight loss on Saturday puts their record at 1-20 as they are still searching for their first LSC win of the year (0-10). The offense averages 9.6 kills and 8.7 assists per set while posting a .112 clip on the attack. Defensively, CU averages 1.8 blocks per set and they have 94 service aces on the year. Third-year player
Arianna Navarrete is the only Aggie with over 100 kills this season (182), while
Bergen Campbell is close with 90. Navarrete also leads CU with 19 aces and is second only to libero
Presley Shearin in digs (167). Freshman setter
Noemie Narbonne has a team-high 269 assists, but after returning to the rotation recently, vets
Desiree Marmolejo and
Kendall Kilchrist are averaging 4.55 and 3.17 assists per frame respectively.
Jessica Lipkit's 54 blocks leads Cameron, while both Navarrete and Taylor Jervey are sitting at 30 rejections for the fall.
SCOUTING NORTHWESTERN
The Rangers are riding their own losing skid into the mid-week match with Cameron. Theirs is just a three-loss slide as they are 6-16 on the year. NWOSU averages 11.1 kills and 10.2 assists per set while hitting .166 on the attack. They also put down 1.1 points per frame from the service line and are blocking 1.7 balls per set as a team. The attack is powered by Kaylee Honeycutt and Addison Wimmer, who both have around 250 kills this fall. Setters Abby Davis (347 assists) and Abigail Burns (255 assists) orchestrate the offense while Davis also leads the team with 18 aces. Junior Ravyn Burns is far and above their best blocker, totaling 54 on the season with the next closest Ranger recording 35 blocks.
