Sanchez and Abram homer in loss to UTPB

LAWTON - After losing a pair on Tuesday, the Aggie baseball team could not fend off the sweep on Friday, falling 12-6 to UT Permian Basin in the series finale

The Cameron Aggies see their losing streak move to seven straight with the loss to UTPB at McCord Field on Friday. The Aggies have only captured one series win this season, against Eastern New Mexico two weekends ago, and own just three wins overall against nine losses.

In the series finale against the Falcons, the Aggies turned to Marcos Feria, their typical game three starter, who currently leads the Aggie pitching staff in strikeouts and had a good outing to start this game. Feria cruised through the first three frames, before he ran into trouble in the fourth. The Aggie hurler finished his day with four innings tossed, four strikeouts, and three walks with a three-run homer being his only blemish.

From there, the Aggie pitching staff never saw a hurler come into the contest in which a Falcon did not cross the plate, only Nolan Archaletta tossed a frame without an earned run, though a run did score in the inning. The Falcon offense came around to score 12 times, while the Aggie offense scratched across six runs in the loss.

Nik Sanchez had a stellar afternoon, going 3-for-4 with a home run in the second inning to get the scoring started and give CU their first lead of the series.

Erik Ohman, Jayce Clem, and S'mauri Abram all joined Sanchez in the multi-hit club, and Abram even launched his first collegiate homer, a three-run jack that plated Sanchez and Nate Vargo.

A Jayce Clem triple all the way to the left field wall scored the other two runs when Beau Williams and Ohman came around to score. Their six runs on Friday is the most the Aggie offense has scored since March 6, a feat they have accomplished five times this year.

The Aggie defense was charged with five errors to help lift the Falcon offense, which collected 11 hits leading to their 12 runs scored.

Next weekend, Cameron will hit the road for the first time since Feb. 22. The team will travel down to Tyler, Texas to take on a ranked UT Tyler team for a three-game series set to begin at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 19, and wrap up on March 20, with a doubleheader affair starting at 1 p.m.
