Cameron near-perfect in Senior Day sweep

LAWTON – The Aggies were near-perfect on Senior Day as they dominated a doubleheader against Eastern New Mexico with 17-1 and 10-0 run-rule wins on Sunday.

Cameron softball used Sunday's twin-bill against the Greyhounds to recognize their four senior student-athletes for their hard work on and off the field as Aggies. Brenna Busby, Callie Christensen, Bethany Hines, and Kaylyn Smith have helped lead the CU softball program to multiple South Central Regionals and a Super Regional as well. They are responsible for multiple school records, All-Conference, All-Region, and All-American honors and they all put on a show for their home fans on Sunday.

In game one against the winless Hounds, Hines was just two outs away from being the third Aggie to throw a perfect game in program history. A homerun with one-out in the fifth inning was the lone blemish on the Washington, Oklahoma products line as she also struck out four hitters in her eight win of the year.

Hines had plenty of run support as the Aggies scored three runs in the first, eight in the second, four in the third, and two more in the fourth for their highest offensive output of the year.

Busby was a perfect 4-4 with two runs scored, and RBI, and three stolen bases at the top of the Aggie order. Christensen had three hits, drove in three runs, and scored four times as the three-hole hitter for CU. Two of her hits came on homeruns, one in the first and another in the third, putting her in second place in the conference with nine long-balls on the season. Hines also helped her cause with three hits, two RBI, and a runs scored.

All but two of the original nine hitters in the Aggie lineup recorded a hit in game one, with Mikayla Richmond added three hits with an inside-the-park homerun, while Kylie French hit her first homer of the year and had a pair of hits.

After Hines threw a near-perfect game in game one, Breley Webb followed her with a one-hit shutout just a few weeks after throwing a no-hitter. Webb allowed three base runners on the hit and two walks and recorded eight outs on fly balls and six on groundouts in her seventh win of the year.

Cameron's bats remained on fire in the second game of the doubleheader, scoring two runs in the first, five in the second, two in the third, and one more in the fourth for the 10-0 win.

Christensen remained perfect at the plate, going 3-3 with three RBI and two runs scored. Busby scored two more runs and stole two more bases, giving her five for the day. Smith scored twice and had a hit and a walk in game two, including coming all the way around to score on a bunt single and an error on the same play.

Webb continued the trend of pitchers hitting as she recorded two hits and drove in a pair of runs, as did Haley Castle, who increased her season RBI total to 25.

Now 20-12 on the season and 11-9 in Lone Star Conference play, the Aggies will carry their three-game winning streak into next week's road trip when they will head to Western New Mexico for two games on April 16 before visiting UT Permian Basin on April 18.
