TEMPE, Ariz. – The Cameron men's tennis team made their first appearance in the Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings on Thursday coming in at No. 22.
The Aggies have been on the outside of the rankings looking in for the first half of the spring. They were receiving votes in the initial poll that was released in early February and then were in the same position on March 23. Now, after winning seven of their last eight matches against Division II opponents, they have jumped up into the No. 22 spot in the rankings.
Also released on Thursday were the initial singles and doubles rankings of the spring. Cameron's top duo of
Oscar del Granado and
Bruno Vietri are ranked No. 9 in all of Division II, while Vietri is ranked the No. 32 singles player. The Aggie pair has won their last five matches together and are 11-2 on the season. Vietri is just 6-7 playing at No. 1 for CU but is since the start of Lone Star Conference play.
Cameron is currently 8-6 on the season and 3-1 against conference opponents, which has them near the top of the league standings with just under a month until the LSC Championship, which will take place at the Waco Regional Tennis Center, April 29-May 1. CU is the lone conference team in the ITA rankings, with Midwestern State and UT Tyler receiving votes.
The Aggies have four matches left on their schedule, including a non-conference match against Newman on Friday at 1 p.m. They follow that up with a LSC battle against St. Mary's on Saturday, April 10. They then visit UT Permian Basin on April 23 and then Western New Mexico on April 24.
