Aggies to host Lubbock Christian and No. 2 Angelo State

LAWTON – The Aggie volleyball team welcomes a pair of Lone Star Conference foes to the Aggie Gym this weekend as they look to snap their current losing skid.

Last weekend, Cameron opened league play with a three-set loss to undefeated Texas A&M-Kingsville and a tough four-set loss to Texas A&M International, which stretched their losing streak to 10 matches, dating back to Sep. 3.

FAN INFORMATION
Cameron Athletics' administration has decided to make all admission completely FREE for the 2021-22 athletic year. Seating is open, besides set aside spots for Gold Club members, and masks and social distancing are encouraged in the Aggie Gym but not required. Both  matches will be streamed on the LSC Digital Network (PPV).

FIRST SERVE
Despite the rough start for CU, they have steadily improved. Against the Javelinas they hit .170, which is the squad's third highest attack percentage of the year. They also had a season-best 11 blocks against the Dustdevils last Saturday in a match that was just a few rallies away from going the Aggies way.

LEADING LADY
Arianna Navarrete is leading the Aggies with 101 kills this season and played two of her best matches of the season last weekend. The third-year player had 12 kills and just three errors against TAMUK to open the weekend and the followed that up with 11 kills and just two errors on Saturday. Navarrete also has 11 aces, second on the team, 74 digs, and 20 blocks through 12 matches.

FRESH FACES
The Aggies have had to rely on their younger athletes this season and those players have stepped up to fill whatever spot they have needed. Noemie Narbonne was thrown into the fire as the starting setter and she has averaged 3.86 assists per set and is second on the team with 11 aces this season. Anjolie Navarrete has plugged in wherever she has needed, totaling 10 kills, 50 assists, four aces, and 48 digs in 30 sets played. Jacee Stelter has proven to be a weapon on the outside, averaging 1.54 kills per set with a .196 attack percentage and seven blocks.

UTILITY PLAYER
Second-year player Presley Shearin has done a good job for the Aggies in whatever position head coach Brandon Stephenson has asked her to play. Going into the year, she was vying for the starting libero spot, but after injuries in the setter group, she stepped in and had matches with 18 and 13 assists in the first weekend. She then had to do the same last weekend, totaling 20 assists against TAMIU. For most of the season, Shearing has been the starting libero, averaging 1.98 digs per set to go along with nine aces.

BLOCKING OUT THE NOISE
Cameron ranks sixth in the LSC in blocking, averaging 1.87 per set with 78.5 on the year. Newcomers Taylor Hervey and Jessica Lipkit have led the charge. Hervey ranked third in the conference with 1.04 blocks per set and Lipkit is 15th at 0.83. The team has had four matches with eight or more blocks, including a season-best 11 last time out against International.

SCOUTING THE LADY CHAPS
Lubbock Christian is 6-4 to start the year and opened league play with a pair of three-set wins over UAFS and Oklahoma Christian. New head coach Keith Giboney has his squad averaging 13.3 kills per set with a .242 attack percentage as well as 1.8 blocks per set. Freshman Aaliyah Gray leads the way with 3.26 points per set, including 3.00 kills per frame. Senior Jalee Sims is averaging 7.72 assists per set, and senior Hanna Froeschl, the reigning LSC Defensive Player of the Week, leads the team with 28 blocks while Sage Chain has 27.

SCOUTING THE RAMBELLES
Entering the weekend as the second ranked team in all of NCAA Division II, Angelo State is sitting at 9-2 on the season with their two loses coming against Adams State and Wayne State. Chuck Waddington's squad is averaging 14.4 assists per set with a .242 hitting percentage and 2.2 blocks per set, which is third in the LSC. The attack is orchestrated by veteran setter Kailyn Gilbreath, who averaged eight assists per set and is coming off a LSC Setter of the Week honor. Gilbreath also leads ASU with 98 kills, while three others have over 80. Senior Baleigh Allen leads the way on the block with 1.15 rejections per frame.

LOOKING AHEAD
Following their first weekend of home matches, the Aggies are back on the road for two more next weekend. They visit Texas Woman's on Friday, Oct. 1, and then DBU on Saturday, Oct. 2.
