Mierl Guides Aggies to Second Place

DUNCAN, Okla. – Trevor Mierl leads Cameron men's golf to a second-place finish in the Hrnciar at the Territory Golf Club. Mierl takes home the runner-up title after two playoff holes.

Mierl sunk a birdie on the 18th hole to create a tie atop the standing to force a playoff. Mierl and Alejandro Armijo of Oklahoma Christian would replay the 18th hole, remaining tied after the first trip; Armijo would sink a birdie on the second trip down the 18 to win the playoff and win the individual title.

Mierl recorded a three-round score of 70-67-71—208. He would sink 12 birdies across the three rounds and score a team-high 28 pars.

CU placed second after recording a third-round score of 287. The Aggies scored 288-285-287—860, finishing 15 strokes back of Oklahoma Christian would score a 290 in the closing round. Cameron B team would finish seventh after recording a score of 298-299-294—891.

Hamish Murray would tie for third place after shooting a 70-71-70—211. Murray had a tournament-high 15 birdies while collecting 37 pars. Preston Holmes turned in a two-day card of 73-74-73—220 while making eight birdies to finish in 17th place. Chris Somerfield placed tied for 18th with a score of 75-73-73—221; he recorded 12 birdies. Joey Kirk tied for 44th place after shooting a 77-75-77—229.

Carson Wright shot a 72-74-73—219 to tie for 14th place; Wright made 12 birdies. Ethan Parker placed 24th with a two-day total of 77-71-74—222; he would make 10 birdies. Hunter Drotts would sink nine birdies leading to his 28th placement with a score of 76-76-72—224. Zachary Siaca shot a 73-78-75—226 to tie for 32nd. Cole Luber tied for 58th with a score of 80-81-75—236.

The Aggies will travel to Davenport, Fla., to compete in the Citrus Intercollegiate and close out the fall from Oct. 31 to Nov. 1.
