Allen and Harrison-Dudley homer early in loss to No. 5 WT

CANYON, Texas – Homers from Ryan Allen and Jordan Harrison-Dudley gave the Aggies an early lead over No. 5 West Texas A&M, but the Buffs scored nine runs in the middle innings to win the series opener on Friday 12-5.

After splitting their first two series of the season, the Cameron baseball team would need to be on their "A" game this weekend to do the same or better as they made the trip to Canyon to take on the Buffs, who are currently fifth in the NCBWA Top-25 poll, for four games.

The Aggies stepped off the bus swinging as Allen homered to deep center in the top of the second to put his team up 1-0. Beau Williams added to that lead in the third with a RBI double to left that scored Zac DeLong

After the Buffs scored three in the bottom of the third, Harrison-Dudley launched a no-doubter over the Wilder Park fence, bringing home Jayce Clem and Williams to put CU back on top 5-3.

West Texas would not stay down long though as the fifth ranked team in the country scored four runs in the fifth, two in the sixth, and three more in the seventh to take a 12-5 lead over the Black and Gold.

The Cameron offense would go scoreless in the final four innings to drop the season opener to the hometown Buffaloes.

Allen and Clem each had two hits while the Aggies totaled eight hits as a team, striking out 10 times and stranding seven runners on base.

Marcos Feria did not have his usual swing and miss stuff starting the game, recording just two K's while giving up eight runs on eight hits, three walks, and three wild pitches in his five-inning start. Carter Bourg gave up four runs during his inning of relief, while freshmen Matthew Scott and Ben Williams each pitched scoreless innings to close out the game.

Now 4-5 on the year, Cameron will be back in action at Wilder Park on Saturday as the two teams play two seven inning games with game one scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
