Cameron powers their way to sweep of Greyhounds

LAWTON – After working for almost two straight days to clear a sheet of ice off McCord Field, the Aggie baseball team was rewarded by sweeping a doubleheader against Eastern New Mexico on Monday.

Cameron and the Greyhounds were originally scheduled to play four games over the weekend, but a rare ice storm in Southwest Oklahoma eliminated two of those games because of unplayable conditions. When the two teams finally got on the field, it was the Aggies who were the benefit of solid pitching and a power surge that led to 3-1 and 10-0 wins.

In the seven-inning opener, Kyle Williams gave the ball to 6-foot-7 lefty Kalen Haynes, who has been a solid starter for CU to this point in the season. Haynes proved the decision to be a good one, giving up just two hits while striking out four during his four innings of work.

All of the Aggies' scoring in game one came in the third inning with two outs as Julian Macias scored on a misplayed ball by the ENMU third baseman off the bat of Jayce Clem and then Jordan Harrison-Dudley brought home Clem and Erik Ohman on a triple to deep center field.

Like Haynes, Drew Henderson has been a valuable option for Williams out of the bullpen and he proved it today, giving up just one run on one hit with a trio of K's to earn the save in game one of the doubleheader.

Cameron totaled five hits in the opener with Tyler Coleman recording a pair of doubles and Macias collecting two hits as well.

In the second game, the Cameron bats came alive, blasting three home runs on their way to scoring 10 runs in the win.

The Aggies gave starter Marcos Feria an early cushion scoring five runs in the bottom of the first with one coming on a Beau Williams solo homer and then three more scoring on Ryan Allen's third blast of the season.

CU added single runs in the third and fourth innings with Clem hitting a solo homer of his own in the third and Be. Williams driving in his second run of the day in the form of Allen on a double.

In the eighth, Julian Macias provided some two-out magic, bringing home Allen and Clem on a double to left center. Haynes then scored on an errant throw by the Greyhound third baseman, giving the Aggies their 10thrun to end the game via run-rule.

Feria gave up just two hits during his four-inning start, striking out three batters and walking one. Clayton McClenan pitched the next three innings, giving up just one hit and adding a K to CU's total. Local product Michael Womack pitched the eighth, striking out the side with a walk mixed in during his one inning of work.

Be. Williams and Clem each had two hits and two RBI in game two with Clem and Allen each scoring three runs as well.

Cameron is now 6-8 on the season and will play their first of only two non-conference games against Southwestern Oklahoma State on Tuesday, March 1. The single game in Weatherford is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
