WEATHERFORD – After taking an early lead in the first of their two non-conference games of the season against Southwestern Oklahoma State, Cameron gave up 15 runs in the middle innings to fall 16-6 on Tuesday.
Less than 24 hours after sweep a Lone Star Conference doubleheader at home against Eastern New Mexico, the Aggie baseball team made the short trip to Weatherford where they had a rough day on the mound during the 7-inning run-rule loss.
Cameron led early with
Tyler Coleman driving in
Beau Williams in the top of the first. After SWOSU answered with a two-run homer in the second,
Jordan Harrison-Dudley emptied a bases-loaded situation with his LSC leading fifth home run of the season, making it 5-2.
The Bulldogs then scored six runs in the bottom of the third and seven in the fourth with three homers providing eight of those runs including a grand slam of their own in the fourth.
Cameron's sixth run of the game came in the top of the fourth as
Dominic Arellano scored on a turned double-play. SWOSU closed the book on the game in the seventh when they scored a run on a single making it 16-6.
The Aggie staff combined to giving up 15 earned runs on 13 hits and seven walks. The lone hurler to have success was
Tyler Cornett, who pitched the final three innings while giving up one run on two hits and a walk with seven strikeouts. Starter Julain Macias, who struck out four batters, got the loss.
Cameron's bats combined for seven hits with Coleman leading the way with two hits and the other five spread between Williams,
Jayce Clem, Harrison-Dudley, and freshmen Arellano and
Colby Flood.
Southwestern will make a return trip to McCord Field on March 29 for the second game of the non-conference series between the two schools. This weekend the Aggies , who are now 6-9 overall this season, are off, but will return to LSC play when they visit UT Permian Basin for a four-game series, March 11-13.
