KINGSVILLE, Texas – Cameron baseball begins the 2022 season with a pair of conference losses against Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday, 5-3 and 7-2.
The Aggies got their season started with a long road trip south of the Red River to take on the TAMUK Javelinas who were picked to finish near the top of the Lone Star Conference standings in the preseason poll.
The Javs threw Lunsford Kolby to start game one who cruised for five and two-third innings, only allowing one hit to the tune of nine strikeouts and just three walks. Mason Foster hurled an inning and ran into some trouble as the Black and Gold got going offensively with two hits, and three runs allowed.
Marcos Feria earned the opening day nod for the Aggies, he pitched 5 and a third innings, giving up as many runs on four hits, with eight strikeouts.
Matthew Scott ended the seven-inning affair by recording two outs after allowing two hits.
Offensively in game one, the Aggies produced three runs off as many hits two of which came via
Erik Ohman with
Beau Williams chipping in the third with two RBI.
In game two, Kingsville earned four runs through the first two innings, with a single run in the third, and two more in the fifth off seven hits. The Javs won the contest 7-2, only allowing five Aggie hits and a pair of runs.
Donovan Greenwell and
Clayton McClenan combined to complete the seven-inning game, with Greenwell giving up three hits and four runs in two innings and McClenan going the final four while giving up three runs on four hits.
Jordan Harrison-Dudley sparked his 2022 campaign with a two-hit game and a run scored at the plate. Ohman, Williams,
Kalen Haynes, and
Ryan Allen all collected hits in this contest as well.
The Javs will look to take the series on Sunday, Feb. 6, at 2 p.m. and the four-game set will wrap up Monday, Feb. 7, at 1 p.m. at Nolan Ryan Field.
