WICHITA, Kan. – The Cameron track and field programs continued their solid start to the indoor track season as they competed at the Herm Wilson Invitational on Saturday hosted by Wichita State.
The Aggies opened the season by setting multiple program records at the Washburn Open last weekend and continued to put up strong numbers this weekend as they returned to Kansas, this time in Wichita for their second of four schedule meets this winter.
On the women's side,
Alexis Chao and
Hailey Sutton competed in the pole vault, with Chao finishing in in ninth with a mark of 3.06m, while Sutton placed 15th with a mark of 2.91m. In the 200m dash,
Prisca Kouao finished with a time of 26.86, placing 11th in the race.
In the 600,
Arian Spears placed 10th with a time of 1:58.15 while
Daesha Brathwaite paced
Genevieve Young and
Alejandra Collier in the 800 with a time of 2:28.20 and a sixth-place finish. Young finished in eighth and Collier placed 14th.
Vivien Chesire competed in the 1000m race, finishing with a time of 3:50.0 and placing eighth, and
Belle Vignes finished in 13th with a time of 5:39.31 in the 3000m event. The meet wrapped up with the 4x400 where Kouao, Brathwaite, Young, and Collier placed second with a time of 4:19.35.
For the Cameron men,
Roman Esparza placed sixth in the pole vault with a mark of 4.03m and
Ethan Stephens finished right behind his teammate with a mark of 3.73m. In the only spring for CU,
Kevin Garcia put up a time of 24.50 in the 200m dash.
Madison Edwards finished in fourth with a time of 1:24.32 in the 600, pacing teammates
Sebastian Padron, who placed 10th, and
Lamon Miles, who finished 12th. In the 800,
Saulo Yoel came in fifth, running a time of 2:00.89 with
Allen Vasquez finishing in 20th in the same event.
Nathan Kemp and
Clement Carre finished fourth and fifth in the 1000m race with times of 2:38.77 and 2:39.20 respectively;
Jason Cousineau came in ninth and
Isehaq Mawi placed 13th. Cousineau also placed 11th in the mile with a time of 4:34.03 leading a group of six Aggies in the event.
In the 3000m race,
Daniel Parra came in 15th with a time of 9:53.51 and his teammate
Dimitris Gkantatsios was two spots back with a time of 10:05.63. Cameron's "A" team of Edwards, Garcia, Miles, and Padron placed fifth in the 4x400 with a time of 3:32.84, while the "B" team of Carre, Kemp, Yoel, and Vasquez came in 10th place.
Cameron will return to Washburn University next weekend, Feb. 12, when they compete in the Ichabod Classic, their final tune-up before the Lone Star Conference Indoor Championships in Lubbock, Texas, Feb. 25-26.
