Aggies fall late to Patriots in game one

LAWTON - Late inning mishaps cost Aggies in game one of their four-game set against UT-Tyler, losing 7-1.

The Cameron Aggies returned to McCord Field on Friday to play host to the UT Tyler Patriots. The Aggies came in with an 8-11 record, ten of those losses coming in Lone Star Conference play. The Patriots entered this four-game series in Lawton, Oklahoma 11-13 with a 1-4 record in their last five games.

Kyle Williams handed the ball to Tyler Cornett to start game one and Cornett cruised to a 1-2-3 first inning, setting the tone for his seven innings to the tune of one earned run, two walks, 11 strikeouts, and just five hits allowed. The Patriots scored two unearned runs on Cornett's watch as the Black and Gold saw a pair of errors in this game.

After Donovan Greenwell, got into a bases-loaded jam, recording just one out, Devin Paz came in out of the bullpen and found success with a 1-2-3 double play on a dribbler right back to the mound, closing out the eighth inning.
Paz started the ninth and allowed three runs on one hit and a walk. Michael Womack took over to record the three outs in the final frame, allowing a run to cross, punching out two batters, and allowing one walk.

At the plate, the Cameron Aggies slapped six hits, two off the bat of Erik Ohman, with Julian Macias, Jordan Harrison-Dudley, Nik Sanchez, and Ryan Carter all producing a hit.

Harrison-Dudley's bases-clearing triple into right field which rattled around the spacious foul grounds at McCord Field to plate Macias way back in the fourth inning. With Harrison-Dudley standing on third with no outs, the Aggies were not able to get their sta outfielder home, leaving eight on base with just one run to show for it.

Up Next, the Aggies will try to even the series in game two of the four-game set and part of a two-game seven-inning doubleheader on Saturday before the series finale on Sunday at McCord Field in Lawton, Oklahoma.
