Baseball falls in series finale at No. 14 ASU

SAN ANGELO, Texas – Ryan Carter hit the Aggies eighth home run of the series, but Cameron was unable to fight off the series sweep to No. 14 Angelo State on Sunday, falling 11-2 to close out the series.

Despite the display of power by the CU bats over the weekend and the one-run loss in Friday's opener against the Rams, CU pitching had a rough weekend as the home team totaled 47 runs over the 4-game set at Foster Field.

Cameron started out on the wrong side of things as starter Clayton McClenan gave up five runs on four hits in the opening frame. CU was able to get two of those back in the top of the second as Tyler Coleman singled and then Ryan Carter brought him home on a 2-run homer to center field.

The score sat at 5-2 for the next five innings before the Rams got two runs on four hits against Evan Nichols in the bottom of the seventh and then scored four more on three hits and an error in the eighth to make it 11-2.

McClenan settled in after the opening frame, throwing 4.2 scoreless innings before being pulled for Nichols in the sixth. He ended up allowing 10 hits and three walks while striking out four Ram hitters. Nichols gave up one earned run during his 1.1 innings of work while Devin Paz came in and finished off the eighth for Gregg.

The Aggie lineup was held to just five hits while getting struck out 11 times and drawing just one walk in the loss. Coleman had two of those hits while Jordan Harrison-Dudley, Carter, and Nik Sanchez provided the other three.

After being swept in a 4-game series for the third time this season, Cameron falls to 13-31 overall and 13-29 in Lone Star Conference play. They will close out the regular season with a 4-game homestand against Texas A&M International that is scheduled to start on Friday, April 29, at 6:30 p.m. at McCord Field.
