Cameron Swept on Saturday

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Cameron Aggies dropped both games of the doubleheader against Lubbock Christian Saturday afternoon, as the two teams post 32 combined runs in 14 innings of action.

The Aggies tried to keep the momentum after a thrilling opening-day victory against the Chaps on Friday, 8-7. The offensive slugfest continued as game one ended with 14 runs on the board in seven innings.

Once again, the Aggies fell behind early, getting down 2-0 in the opening frame and falling behind by three runs by the end of the second. A fifth-inning rally sparked CU's first lead of the afternoon, a three-run outburst that put the Black-and-Gold ahead before the Chaps answered for a run in the bottom half to knot the game.

The Cameron Offense responded with three runs by the end of the top half of the seventh, but it was not enough to hold off the Chaps, who hit a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the seventh off the bat at Shull.

Outfielder Trent Mallonee turned in a two-hit day with an RBI, as left fielder Lance Barnett was the only other Aggie to record a multi-hit game with two hits, two runs driven in, and a run scored of his own. However, Will Bradley, Kody Bigford, Jayce Clem, Drew Durst, Spencer Simpson, Hunter Smith, and Beau Williams reached base twice.

On the Bump, Drew Henderson went the distance hurling six-plus innings of nine hits and eight-run ball featuring two walks, six strikeouts, and a wild pitch, with an intentional free pass.

The Chaps saw Marcos Escalera strikeout four batters through four innings before Josh Akers eventually claimed the win.

In game three of the series, game two of the doubleheader set, the Aggies rally fell just short as the Black-and-Gold lost 10-8 after collecting five hits, getting on base via five errors, and working eight walks.

Barnett was the lone Aggie to post a multi-hit game turning in two knocks, three RBI, and a run scored in his four at-bats.

Clem recorded two RBI after posting a 1-for-2 game at the plate, with a walk, and Williams was 0-for-2 but was hit by the pitch twice with the bases loaded to record two RBI.

Smith, Mallonee, and Bigford worked two walks.

On the bound, Nate Creason pitched two innings, giving up seven runs, only four of which were earned, a walk, three punch outs, a hit by pitch, and induced three ground balls. He was tabbed with the loss in this contest as Garrett Klein came into the game out of the bullpen to the tune of four innings, four hits, three runs (two earned), and four strikeouts.

The Aggies will look to even the series and salvage a tough road split in Lubbock on Sunday afternoon, with the first pitch slated for 1 p.m.
