LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron Aggies get swept in Saturday's doubleheader in two back-and-forth affairs, as West Texas A&M secures a series win at McCord Field despite CU offense coming alive.
The Aggies turned to Marcos Feria to start game one, who pitched four innings while punching out six Buffs and allowing just two earned runs. Overall, WTAMU would strike for six runs while Feria was on the bump before tacking on two more against Garrett Klein, who struck out two Buffs.
The CU offense came alive early and often in game two of the series when Trent Mallonee led off the game with a first-pitch double, which prompted an onslaught of hits as Cameron racked up nearly double-digit hits and scored seven runs.
Beau Williams hit an RBI single to plate Mallonee, capitalizing on that leadoff double. That was one of two RBIs for Williams in this contest. Spencer Simpson came through with an RBI base knock in the second inning before Clem did the same to plate Lance Barnett in third.
Rylee Hines slapped a solo home run over the right field wall in the 6th inning to make it a two-run ball game, but the Aggies rally fell short. However, not before they made it a one-run game via a Barnett double to right-center field to plate Kody Bigford.
After falling 8-7, the Aggies played another emotional game in game three of the series. The Black-and-Gold fell behind by four runs right out of the gate but scrapped and clawed their way back to tie it by the time the fourth frame was over.
The scoring started in the first inning when Williams singled to right to get one of the four runs back, and the Aggies pitching staff kept the Buffs at bay for the next six innings, allowing a three-run outburst in the fourth to tie the game. In that inning, it was once again Mallonee who came up big with a two-RBI single to follow up a Bigford fielder's choice that got CU within two.
The Aggies ran out of gas when the Buffs poured in three runs in the top of the seventh to secure the series win.
These two teams will meet again on Sunday at McCord Field as CU hopes to avoid being swept. The first pitch is set for 1 p.m.
