PORTALES, N.M. – Drew Henderson of Cameron shut down Eastern New Mexico holding them scoreless over the last four frames, as the Aggies defeated ENMU 16-15 at the Greyhound Baseball Field Thursday afternoon.
Henderson entered the game in an emergency after starter Brendan Moran and reliever Jacob Acheson had to leave the game in the second inning due to injuries. Henderson pitched the final 7.1 innings, allowing seven runs, three earned off nine hits, while striking out five. Moran threw 1.0 inning, surrendering four runs on four hits with two strikeouts, and Acheson lasted 0.2 innings giving up four runs on a hit, and he struck out two.
Jayce Clem led the Black-and-Gold at the plate, going 3-for-5 with four RBI, three runs, two home runs, and a walk. Ryan Allen was 2-of-2 with two runs, an RBI, a double, and a walk. Kody Bigford went 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run and was hit by two pitches. Trent Mallonee was 2-for-6 with three RBI. Drew Durst was 1-for-6 with two RBI and a run. Colby Flood went 1-for-2. Beau Williams had a 1-for-4 outing with two runs, two walks, and an RBI. Will Bradley scored two runs, walked once, and was hit by a pitch, and Kai Hershberger drew four walks, stole a base, and scored two runs.
The Greyhounds took a 2-0 lead in the first.
In the second, Clem led off with a solo home run to right, Bigford was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Hershberger, and Mallonee singled back up the middle to score Bradley and Allen to give CU a 4-2 lead.
Eastern answered with seven runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 9-4 lead.
The Aggies would tie the game at 9-9 in the fourth. Mallonee drove in Allen on a groundout, Bigford scored on an infield single by Williams, and Clem connected on a three-run home run down the line in right.
ENMU retook the lead at 14-9 in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Allen drove in Hershberger with a drive into the corner in left field, then Bradley scored on a bases-loaded, non-force-out triple play to make it 14-11.
The Greyhounds scored their last run in the fifth to take a 15-11 lead.
In the sixth, Durst singled to right to drive in Hunter Smith and Williams, then Clem and Durst scored on a single by Bigford to tie the game at 15-15.
Smith would score the final run in the seventh, crossing the plate on a double play to make it 16-15.
These two teams will meet for a doubleheader tomorrow starting at 1:00 pm MT.
