TYLER, Texas – Preston Holmes is in second place after two rounds of the King-Alfred Invitational, aiding Cameron to hold down second place at the Cascades Country Club on Monday.
The Aggies turned in a two-round score of 289-290—579 to trail leaders UT Permian Basin by four strokes heading into the final round. Sangha Park of UTPB leads the field after firing an impressive first round of 64 to shoot a 135, leading the field by seven strokes.
CU made a field high 133 pars and the third most birdies. Holmes leads the tournament with 27 pars, Joey Kirk hit 23, Hunter Drotts and Chris Somerfield connected on 22, Trevor Mierl sunk 20, and Hamish Murray made 19. Somerfield led the Black-and-Gold with seven birdies, Drotts dropped six, Holmes and Murray hit five, Mierl had three birdies, and Kirk made two.
Holmes had a 142 after two rounds shooting 68 to open the day and 74 in the afternoon, holding off teammate Somerfield for second place. Somerfield ranks third after scoring a 74-79—143.
Drotts is tied for seventh with a scorecard of 73-72—145, and Murray shot a 74-76—150 to rank tied for 18th.
Kirk is tied for 30th with a day one total of 80-75-155, and Mierl recorded a 79-77-156 to tie for 36th place.
Cameron's third round will start at 8:30 on the 10th hole at the Cascades Country Club.
