Aggies Run-Rule UTPB

LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron baseball team slug their way to a 16-6 run-rule win over the UT Permian Basin, as Beau Williams drives in seven of CU's 16 runs.

The Cameron baseball team came into Friday evening needing a win at a windy McCord Field. Playing host to the Falcons, this series will prove pivotal for the Black-and-Gold. CU got behind early, giving up two runs before letting up their first hit of the ball game thanks to a string of errors and free passes, but the offense provided a jolt in the bottom half of the second to post four runs and gain a two-run advantage.

That lead was relinquished in the top of the fourth, as the Falcons tied it up, before the Aggies answered back with a trio of runs in the fourth and fifth, before walking it off via the run rule thanks to a four-run sixth inning and two-run eighth frame.

Gone with the wind, Cameron clubbed three home runs in eight innings off the bats of Kody Bigford, Kai Hershberger, and Williams.

Williams, a senior second baseman, plated seven runs on three hits, scored two runs, and had a stolen base. He was one of four Aggies to collect three hits; Colby Flood, Hershberger, and Bigford did the same.

Jayce Clem and Trent Mallonee piled on two hits each, and Hunter Smith shot a double against the shift to plate a run to finish off the 17 tallied hits for CU.

Clem was a two-way star, only allowing one hit on the afternoon through three innings on the mound. The Big Pasture, Okla., native struck out two, walked five, and allowed four of the six Falcons runs. Clayton McClenan finished out the last five innings of this run-rule truncated game. McClenan punched out four, only allowing two runs, and did not hand out a single free pass. Though, UTPB collected eight of their nine hits on McClenan.

The Aggies improve to 6-25 on the season, secure their second home win of the 2023 campaign, and for the fifth time, they open a Lone Star Conference series with a win. These two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, beginning at 2 p.m. at McCord Field. Kyle Williams' club will aim for their first series win of the season this weekend in Lawton.
