CU Stumbles Sunday

LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron baseball team fell in Sunday's finale to Arkansas Fort Smith, 9-2, forcing a series split at McCord Field.

The Aggies turned to Matthew Scott to start the ball game as he surrendered two runs in the top of the first inning.

CU earned one of those runs back in the bottom half of the first frame when Beau Williams singled down the line to score Trent Mallonee, who led off the game with a double to left.

The Lions compiled five runs across the next two innings before Cameron scored their next and final run in the bottom of the fourth inning via a Randy Aberouette ground out, which scored Jayce Clem.

UAFS would eventually turn in nine runs across nine innings. Getting to Scott three times, Jacob Acheson surrendered the same amount, while Colton Popp saw a run come across before rebounding an out. Fort Smith's scoring was over after tacking on two more on Carter Bourg.

The Aggies' pitching staff posted nine strikeouts, five of which were via Evan Nichols, three came from the hand of Bourg, and one from Acheson.

Mallonee was the Lone member of the CU offense to string together two hits in this one, was Williams, Clem, Aberoutte, and Kody Bigford were responsible for the other four.

Up Next, the Aggies head north to Edmond, Okla., to take on the Oklahoma Christian Eagles for a four-game series starting on April 21st, with the first pitch slated for 3:00 pm.
