ARLINGTON, Texas – The Cameron men's tennis team handled 3-seed Midwestern State 4-1 to advance to the Lone Star Conference Tournament Championship at the Arlington Tennis Complex.
The Aggies had a quick lead after Tomas Almeida and Thomas Cardona won 6-4 at No. 1 doubles, and Joao Duleba and Baptiste Mercier had a 6-2 win at No. 2. Kristian Kubik and Emilio Seelbach were leading 6-5 at No. 3 when the match was halted.
Mercier gave CU a 2-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles.
The Mustangs got their only point at No. 5 when Duleba fell to Stephen Slocombe 2-6, 3-6.
Cardona made it 3-1 after he had a 6-4, 7-5 victory at No. 2.
The Black-and-Gold sealed the match when Kubik won with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 4.
In the matches that did not complete, Almeida won the first set 7-6 but was trailing set two 4-3. Alexandre Post lost set one 3-6 before leading the second 6-5 at the conclusion of the match.
Cameron will look to get revenge for the 3-4 loss to the Patriots earlier this season on Saturday at 9:30 am in the championship match.
