LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron baseball team opens the season's final weekend with an 8-5 win over St. Mary's at McCord Field on Friday evening.
The Aggies have now opened eight series with a win this season, with this win coming behind the right arm of Drew Henderson. Henderson took over on the mound with two runners on in the fourth inning. He pitched six innings giving up a run on four hits while striking out eight. Evan Nichols started, lasting three-plus innings, surrendering four runs on five hits while striking out three.
Riley Hines went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and a run, and Jayce Clem was 2-of-4 with two doubles, two runs, and an RBI. Ryan Allen was 1-for-4 with an RBI, Lance Barnett went 1-of-2 with a run and a double, Drew Durst had a 1-for-3 outing with a run and an RBI, Holden Tate went 1-for-4, and Beau Williams was 1-of-3 with two runs, a triple, and a walk.
StMU opened the scoring in the second to take a 1-0 lead.
In the third, Barnett scored off an error by the Rattlers pitcher, who airmailed a throw to first on a sacrifice bunt by Hines, and Hines scored off a sac fly by Trent Mallonee to give CU a 2-1 lead after three innings.
St. Mary's reclaimed a short-lived lead in the top of the fourth when they scored three runs.
In the bottom half of the inning, Durst singles through the left side to plate Williams, then Hines doubles to left to knock in Clem and Durst giving the Black-and-Gold a 5-4 advantage.
StMU got a run in the fifth to tie the game at 5-5.
Allen gave Cameron the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth when he singled through the right side to drive in Kody Bigford.
In the seventh, Williams scored on a double off the bat of Clem; then Clem came in to score the final run on a wild pitch to close out the scoring 8-5.
The Aggies will face St. Mary's for a doubleheader on Saturday at 3:00 pm. After game one, the CU baseball team will honor their nine seniors.
