TYLER, Texas – Cameron drops the twin bill to UT Tyler on Easter Sunday at Irwin Field, falling in the opener 19-0 before dropping the nightcap 8-3.
Kody Bigford collected two of the four hits the Aggies had in the first game, while Drew Durst and Kai Hershberger had the other two.
Drew Henderson got hit with the loss, pitching three innings, allowing nine runs, six earned on seven hits while striking out two. Nate Creason threw an inning, allowing two runs on a hit. Colby Flood allowed six hits and four runs in his inning of work. Josh Hernandez pitched an inning allowing four runs, two earned on two hits.
Tyler got ahead in the first with six runs. They added a run in the third, five more in the fourth, four in the fourth, and four in the sixth to take the first game 19-0.
In the nightcap, Beau Williams had a 3-for-4 game with a double, and a run, Jayce Clem was 2-for-3 with a run and a double, and Randy Aberouette, Bigford, Will Bradley, Durst, and Hershberger added a hit. Hershberger had a home run, two RBI, a run, and a walk.
Clem started on the bump, throwing 1.1 innings, surrendering five runs on five hits and three walks. Garrett Klein threw the final 4.2 innings giving up three runs on six hits while striking out two.
CU got ahead 1-0 in the first after Trent Mallonee knocked in Williams with a grounder. The Black-and-Gold would load the bases on a Clem single, a Durst single, and a walk to Hershberger before Aberouette drove a shot down the line that cleared the bases, which would have given Cameron a 4-0 lead, but UT Tyler would appeal at first, as it was ruled that Aberouette missed first base ended the inning.
The Patriots scored five runs in the second to take a 5-1 lead.
In the third, Hershberger made it a 5-3 game with a two-run home run to left-center that plated Clem.
UT Tyler closed out the scoring in the sixth with three runs.
The Aggies and Patriots will face off at noon tomorrow for the series' final game.
