Cameron Struggles in the Opening Round

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – Cameron men's golf team had an unorthodox opening round at the West/South Central Regional on Thursday afternoon at the Foxtail Golf Club.

The Aggies made 18 birdies during the first round and parred 43 holes. Preston Holmes led the squad with five birdies, while Hunter Drotts and Trevor Mierl made four, Chris Somerfield had three, and Hamish Murray connected on two birdies.


CU shot a 302 in the first round to set in 17th place a stroke up on rival Midwestern State, and both teams are projected to advance from the regional tournament. Colorado Christian leads the tournament with a 281, while Peyton Jones of the Cougars shot a six-under to hold a two-stroke lead on the rest of the field.


Murray is tied for 36th place with a two-over round of 74, Somerfield carded a +3 (75) setting tied for 46th, Mierl had a four-over (76) to hold a tie for 60th place, and in a tie for 74th is Drotts and Holmes who shot a round of 77, for five-over par.


The Black-and-Gold kick off day two as they open the tee box at 7:30 am PDT.
