Cameron Aggies Women's Cross Country Positioned to Finish 8th in LSC Preseason Poll

In the competitive landscape of the Lone Star Conference (LSC) women's cross country, the Cameron Aggies find themselves in a familiar position as they prepare for the 2024 season. The conference's recent release of the preseason poll places the Aggies in 8th place with 234 points, signaling both the team's established presence and the potential for growth in the upcoming year.

The poll, announced this morning, showcases the strength and depth of the LSC, with the West Texas A&M Lady Buffs leading the pack. Fresh off their runner-up finish at nationals and a conference championship last year, the Lady Buffs secured the top spot with 444 points and 25 first-place votes. Their dominance is closely followed by Dallas Baptist University (DBU), who claimed the second position with 416 points and four first-place votes.

The Aggies' 8th place projection puts them in the middle of an intriguing pack. They find themselves ahead of Western New Mexico, UT Tyler, Texas A&M International, and Texas A&M-Kingsville – all formidable opponents separated by narrow margins in the poll. This clustering suggests that the mid-table battle in the LSC will be fierce and unpredictable throughout the season.

The team is coming off an impressive 2023 season that saw them secure 8th place at the LSC Championships in Portales, New Mexico. This performance has set a solid foundation for the upcoming year and has instilled confidence in both the returning athletes and the coaching staff.

Two names stand out as the Aggies' "Runners to Watch" for 2024:  Manon Cady and Kaat de Staercke. Cady, in particular, made headlines last season by breaking the school record in the 3K meter run at the Wendy's/Pittsburg State Invitational. Her record-breaking performance not only showcases her individual talent but also serves as an inspiration for the entire team.

Coach Zach Johnson welcomes back seven returners from last year's squad and eight newcomers. This mix of old and new could prove to be a key factor in the Aggies' quest to exceed expectations and climb the conference rankings.

As the 2024 season approaches, all eyes will be on the Aggie Duals, scheduled for Friday, September 6th. This early-morning event, set to take place at the Lawton Soccer Club at 8 am, will serve as the team's season opener and first true test. It will provide an opportunity for both returning runners and newcomers to showcase their abilities and set the tone for the campaign ahead.
