Wichita Falls, Texas- The Women's Tennis Team traveled to nationally ranked #1 Midwestern State Tuesday in their Lone Star Conference opener. The Mustangs ultimately won the match 7-0 but the Aggies were in the competition in nearly every match. The match comes a day after Cameron dropped a hard fought match with #5 Washburn 4-3.
The Aggies started off the match with a dominate performance at #1 doubles where nationally ranked #2 doubles team of
Anastasia Uspenskaia and
Jenna Goessel for Cameron defeated MSU's Benzari and Ghinga 6-1. After dropping #3 doubles 6-2, the Aggies dropped the doubles point with a tight 6-4 loss to #31 Yip and Garcia at #2 doubles with the pairing of Jankowska and Wawrowska breaking their 3 match win streak.
Into the singles, the Aggies dropped close straight set matches to nationally ranked opponents.
Anastasia Uspenskaia dropped her match to #5 ranked Jessica Benzari 7-6, 6-4 and
Magda Wawrowska lost to #23 Sofia Giraldo 6-4, 7-5.
Jenna Goessel lost to MSU's #3 singles Anda Ghinga after winning the first set with a score of 3-6, 7-5, 6-4. In an over three hour long contest at #2 singles,
Martyna Jankowska narrowly lost to Hannah Yip 6-7, 6-4, 7-5. The Mustangs went on to win at #5 against
Anna Deuringer and #6
Alexsa Paucar with scores 6-3, 6-2 and 6-0, 6-2.
The Aggies will be back in action on March 28 at LSC opponent UT Permian Basin, then on to Lubbock Christian on March 29.
