Lawton, Okla- Cameron's Women's Tennis team takes down Division II opponent Newman in their first regular season home match of the season Friday. This match is the first of 5 in 7 days as the Aggies take part in a GAC/MIAA crossover event in Wichita Falls. Several matches will take place at Cameron and some will be played across the border. The women's team were able to start strong in their first match against MIAA's Newman in a 6-1 victory.
The Aggies got off to an early start with the match by taking the doubles point. Seniors
Magda Wawrowska and
Martyna Jankowska picked up the first win at #2 doubles with a 6-2 win followed by #3 doubles pairing of
Alexsa Paucar and
Anna Deuringertaking their match 6-2 as well. Despite taking the doubles point, #2 ranked
Anastasia Uspenskaia and
Jenna Goessel were unable to hold off the Jets top doubles team losing their doubles set in a tiebreaker.
Cameron continued their dominate play into the singles securing all four of the top singles matches in straight set wins starting with Wawrowska at #4 who's opponent was unable to finish the match after the first set.
Alexsa Paucar fell short in her match at #5 singles but fellow freshman
Anna Deuringer was able to pick up the 6th point of the match with a 6-1,6-0 victory at #6 singles.
The Aggies are scheduled to play former LSC opponent Arkansas-Ft. Smith Saturday in Wichita Falls then will return home Sunday at 1pm to play NW Missouri St at the Striech-Henry Family Tennis Complex at Cameron.
