LAWTON, Ok — On Friday, Cameron softball celebrated senior day for their eight graduating Aggies. Presleigh Payne, Kelsey Creech, Kelsye Loughman, Chloe Middleton, Kaiden Boren, Hannah Williams, Mia Garcia and Tinley Schmidgall were all honored with their family in company. The student-athletes gathered with their fellow teammates on the third base line and met their families in the pitching circle. The senior Aggies were gifted a framed jersey along with flowers.
Game 1 Recap: Late Game Uproar Seals the Victory
It was a back and forth, high offensive affair with St. Mary's starting the scoring in the first frame. Off of three hits, the Rattlers scored three runs, 0-3. The Aggies immediately responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. Kelsey Creech reached on a walk and Kaiden Boren singled to center field. The ball slipped under the center field's glove and rolled to the wall which allowed both Creech and Boren to score.
After a scoreless second inning, Boren stepped back up to the plate and doubled in Creech. Later in the inning, Madysen Boutwell smacked one deep enough to score Boren for a sacrifice fly out. An inning later, Boren continued her amazing game with a grand slam deep over the left field wall. The lead grew in the sixth with an RBI double down the left field line from Boutwell. Two runs scored from an error and fielder's choice. Mia Garcia singled in a run and a run scored from an error to cap a five run sixth inning. Cameron went on to win their sixth consecutive game, 13-7.
Game 2 Recap: Big Fourth Inning Solidifies Win
The first three innings of game two were scoreless with little offensive at all. It took until the bottom of the first for the home team to finally break the scoreless tie. Haley Gardella launched the ball over the left center fence to put her team up one. The Rattlers responded with two runs of their own in the top of the fifth to flip the scoreboard and lead by one.
Cameron regained the edge with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Creech singled to left for an RBI knock and Mia Garcia scored on a fielder's choice. Boutwell knocked in two runs from a single to right center. Garcia would single in a RBI in the sixth to extend the lead. Anslie Roach scored Garcia on an infield single. The Aggies went on to sweep the double header, 7-4.
