LAWTON, Oklahoma - Cameron women's tennis started the week with a huge victory against No. 28 Angelo State University on Monday afternoon. After the rain and clouds cleared from the weekend, the Aggies took to the courts and hosted the Rams.
The Aggies struggled to begin the meeting as they lost all three doubles matchups. In doubles #1, Martyna Jankowska and Jenna Goessel narrowly fell to No. 13 Avery Durham and Eva Schwartz. Mara Vidal and Anastasia Uspenskaia lost with the same score and Magda Wawrowska and Alexsa Paucar dropped doubles #3 6-1.
Singles #1 was a back and forth battle with Martyna Jankowska won in a tiebreaker finish. Anastasia Uspenskaia took charge in singles #2 with 6-3 and 6-2 set wins. Alexsa Paucar and Mara Vidal fell in singles #5 and #6. Magda Warokwska won her competed game in singles #4. Jenna Goessel was the final matchup of the afternoon left and would decide who would win the match. Goessel and her opponent went into a long tie breaker. Goessel took the first set 7-5 but dropped the second 6-3. She went on to win the tiebreaker 6-4 in a thrilling conclusion to the afternoon. The Aggies won the match 4-3, which snapped a five match losing streak.
Cameron Aggies women's tennis next match will be on the road in Silver City, NM against Western New Mexico University.
