Tennis Men Seal Win over Seminole State

NORMAN - The Cameron University men's tennis team competed in its final regular season contest of the year today in a match-up against Seminole State College. The No. 22 Aggies collected the win, topping the Trojans 7-2.

Things favored the Black and Gold in doubles play, as they secured two of the three matches. Unfortunately, the CU duo at the top slot fell 8-5 to Oliver Anderson and Admire Mushonga. However, the teams at the No. 2 and 3 positions had no problem taking out their counterparts.

Thomas Peixoto and Gonzalo Garzon joined forces to conquer their opponents at the No. 2 spot 8-3, and the pair of Duje Janjic and Dean Weigelt crushed Caio Nunes and Johnathan Taylor 8-2 at the No. 3 position.

The men continued their fine form into singles action. Janjic and Nicolai Ferrigno clinched comfortable wins at the No. 2 and 3 spots. Janjic picked up a 6-2, 6-1 decision, while Ferringo dropped only one game in route to his defeat of Freddy Sanchez.

Jorge Gerosi and Mateus Campos also secured routine wins, respectively nabbing 7-5, 6-1 and 6-2, 6-3 decisions.

Peixoto, ranked No. 38 nationally, has made a habit this season of extending his matches to three sets, and today was no exception. The CU senior gave up the first set to Mushonga in a tight tie break, but went on to swipe the second and the super tie breaker, earning a comprehensive 6-7(4), 6-3, 10-4 victory.

Garzon was pushed to three sets as well; however, his match would end in the favor of SSC. The Chilean fell in a rough 3-6, 7-6, 10-8 decision.

After today's contest, the Aggie men improved their record to 16-8. The next action for the both the men's and women's teams comes April 20-21 when they compete in the Lone Star Conference Tournament in Southlake, Texas.
