Aggies lose both games of home opener

LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron University Baseball team loses both games in today’s home opener double header against Henderson State.

Henderson State 5, Cameron 4 (7 inning) | Box Score

Cameron kicked off the scoring in the bottom of the first inning, scoring three runs on three hits. It started with a Keaton Green walk, which was followed by Tomas Galvin getting hit by the pitch. After the runners advanced on a sacrifice hit, Brandon Raidy doubled and drove in both runs. Raidy would then advance to third and then score on a sacrifice fly to right field by Tyler Cox.

Henderson State would answer back in the third inning, scoring three runs on four hits.

The score would remain at 3-3 till the bottom of the fifth when Nick Smith singles, stole second, and scored on an error to put the Aggies up by one.

HSU would then have a big inning in the seventh, where two hits and one error by CU plated two to give them the lead. CU was not able to even it in the bottom of the seventh, so HSU would win the first game of the double header.

Cameron’s starter Drew Reidt went six innings, giving up three earned runs and six strikeouts.

As opposed to the first game, Henderson State would kick off the scoring in the first inning. The Reddies scored three runs, on one hit and three errors in the inning.

HSU would then tack another run on in the fourth inning, via two hits in the inning.

The Aggies would give up another big inning in the seventh, giving up four runs in the inning, three of which came off a HSU three RBI homerun.

The Aggies would add their one run in the bottom of the ninth inning, after Smith doubled, advanced to third, and scored on a Cox sacrifice fly to right.

Starting pitcher Brain Schwabe went 4.1 innings and had three strikeouts and one earned run.

Key Aggie hitters today were Nick Smith, who went 3-7 today with two runs scored, Brandon Raidy, who was 1-6 with two RBI’s, and Tyler Cox who had two RBI’s.

The Aggies will seek to even the series up tomorrow as they complete the home opener series with another double header against the Reddies tomorrow starting at noon.
