Cameron University Names Holden Capps Head Baseball Coach

LAWTON, Oklahoma – Cameron University Director of Athletics Lou Izzi has named Holden Capps as the Aggies new head baseball coach.

A former standout player at Lawton High School, Capps was drafted in the 8th round of the 2017 MLB Draft by the Kansas City Royals.  Following a six-year professional career, which included 42 appearances at the AA level with the Northwest Arkansas Naturals, Capps became a Division I assistant coach at Long Island University where he has been the recruiting coordinator and pitching coach for the past three seasons.  Capps played a key role in leading LIU to the 2024 Northeast Conference Championship and the NCAA Division I baseball tournament.

"This is an exciting time for our baseball program," said Izzi.  "Holden brings instant credibility to Cameron Baseball as a successful Division I coach and a former Major League Baseball draft
choice and professional athlete.  Holden also brings a refreshing perspective to our program along with an impressive baseball acumen and a strong focus on player development, culture-building, and elite player recruitment, especially with his contacts throughout Oklahoma and within our region. Holden was raised in the Lawton area, and he
is eager to give back to the community and build a baseball program that reflects the strength, pride, and potential of Cameron University and Southwest Oklahoma."

Prior to beginning his professional baseball career, Capps pitched two seasons at Redlands Community College in El Reno, Oklahoma, one season at Division I UNC Charlotte, and one    season at Division II University of Central Oklahoma.

"I am truly honored to be named the Head Baseball Coach at Cameron," said Capps.  Returning to Lawton, where my passion for baseball first ignited, with the opportunity to lead this
program in the Lone Star Conference, is more than just a career move. It is a chance to reinvest in the very soil that nurtured my own dreams and aspirations and to instill in our athletes the same dedication and pursuit of excellence that Lawton fostered in me. My vision for the Cameron baseball program is one built on hard work, integrity, and a relentless drive to succeed on the field, academically, and as representatives of the community."

Capps graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma with a Bachelor's degree in General Studies with a concentration in Exercise Science.
