LAWTON, Okla. -- The #20 ranked Aggie men's tennis team won both their matches on Friday against CSU-Pueblo and East Central University moving to a 6-1 record this season.
Cameron 9, CSU-Pueblo 0
In their first match against Colorado State-Pueblo, the Aggies started off winning all three of their doubles matches. The slot one team of Ferrigno/Merdan beat their opponent 8-3, while the second CU team of Janjic/Weigelt won their match 8-2. The third doubles team of Lencioni/Fazendiero looked the most impressive, beating their counterparts 8-1.
Individually, Nicolai Ferrigno got a perfect 6-0, 6-0 win in the one slot, while Angelo Lencioni also did not let his opponent win a game as well. The other four CU players also won in two sets: Duje Janjic won 6-1, 7-6, Jorge Gerosi won 6-1, 6-2, Dennis Merdan won 6-1, 6-2, and Joao Fazendeiro won 6-4, 6-0.
Cameron 7, East Central 2
In the late afternoon match with East Central, Cameron for the second time swept all three doubles matches. In one doubles, Ferrigno/Merdan eased into a 8-3 win, Janjic/Weigelt came away with a tough 8-6 win, while in three doubles Lencioni/Fazendiero earned a 8-5 victory.Â
In singles action, #19 ranked Ferrigno continued his perfect season winning 6-0, 6-1 and he is 7-0 this season so far for the Ags. Janjic had to battle in two singles, but got the win, 6-1, 5-7, 10-6. He is now 6-1 this season. Merdan got the win in four singles, 6-1, 6-1 and Joao Fazendeiro earned a 6-2, 7-5 win in six singles.Â
The Aggies will play Southwest Baptist University on Saturday, Mar. 2 at 9 a.m. in the Streich-Henry Family Tennis Complex.
