LAWTON – Cameron dropped the final two games of their series to #17 West Texas A&M on Monday afternoon with the Buffs winning 5-4 in game one and 10-0 in the finale.
Cameron coughed up a seventh inning 4-2 lead in the opener with two runs and WT would get the winning run in the eighth. West Texas A&M controlled the final game from start to finish with the Aggies committing five errors.
The losses on Monday slide the Aggies to 2-6 in Lone Star Conference play and 13-6 overall. West Texas A&M will go to 17-5 overall and 6-2 is league play.
In game one, the Aggies struck first in the opening inning with two outs.
Tyler Cook singled down the left field line and
Bronson Pulgados followed up with a single down the left field line for a RBI;
Jonathan Reyes continued the scoring with a double that shot up over the first base bag for a RBI double.
After a scoreless inning, WT opened the third reaching on a CU error, the Buff next batter doubled to put runners at second and third. A CU passed ball moved the runners up a base and handed WT their first run; they would tie the game at two each off a ground out to third.
Cameron overtook the Buffs in the fifth inning were they loaded the bases with no outs; Pulgados knocked two go-ahead runs in with his second hit of the game scoring
Tyler McKinzie and
Nate Hale.
In the seventh, WT opened the inning with the single up the middle and a passed ball moved the runner into scoring position. A single to center allowed for one run to cross home plate and they later tied the game with an infield ground ball.
Cameron would give up the eventual winning run in the eighth with a WT RBI double.
Pulgados would have two of CU's seven hits with three RBI.
Javarias Banks started the contest striking out ten Buff batters in the no-decision;
Matt Glasmann (2-1) would be charged with the loss.
In the nightcap, WT struck early taking advantage of two CU fielding errors and scoring four runs. After two scoreless innings, the Buffs added to their lead with three runs and made it a 9-0 lead in the fifth with two more runs. West Texas A&M padded their lead in the sixth with a RBI single. The final game would end in the seventh with the run-rule in effect.
Jackson Tetreault (1-1) was charged with the loss in his first start going 3 1/3 innings with seven runs (four earned) given up;
Blake Welch and
Andrew Garza both came out of the bullpen for the Aggies.
Cameron will come back to play Tarleton State for a four game series starting on Friday at 3 p.m.
