SAN ANGELO, Texas – A three-run eighth inning by Angelo State carried the Rams to a 5-4 win against the Aggies in their series opener on Thursday evening.

Cameron led 4-2 heading into the bottom of the eighth, but a three-RBI single by Angelo State spoiled the Aggies' hopes to snap an eight-game skid against the Rams.

Cameron struck first in the opening inning as
Bronson Pulgados singled to right field to bring in a pair of Aggies for the 2-0 lead. The Aggies extended their lead to four in the top of the sixth on an RBI double by
Cody Bower and a sacrifice fly from
Jonathan Reyes.

However, Angelo State would cut the lead back to two with a pair of solo homers in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings. Cameron was ahead 4-2 when in the eighth inning, ASU's Christian Abilla hit a 3 RBI single with two outs, scoring one earned run while an Aggie fielding error allowed two more to cross the plate for the 5-4 Ram lead.

The Aggies could not capitalize with a runner in scoring position in the ninth inning to fall to the Rams and move to 16-8 on the season, 5-8 in the Lone Star Conference.

Bryan Belote (2-3) was charged with the loss, while Angelo State's Graylon Brown (3-3) picked up the win for the Rams. Brown struck out two Aggie batters and allowed two hits and no runs in 2.2 innings.

Cameron recorded ten hits on the outing, while Angelo State had seven. Four Aggies had multiple hits, including
Cole Williams, who went 2 for 4 at the plate with two doubles. Both teams closed the game with an error apiece.

Cameron and Angelo State will resume their four-game series on Friday with a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m.
