WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The rivalry between the Cameron and Midwestern State grew larger on Tuesday with the No. 17 Aggies taking a 5-4 thriller over the No. 20 Mustangs. 

Tuesday's Lone Star Conference match came down to the wire with Samantha Wood in CU's five-singles slot.  Wood won her first set 6-4 but fell 5-7 with the match tied at four points apiece.   However, the skies opened up in Wichita Falls with rain where the dual would be delayed for nearly two hours, and moved indoors.

When play resumed, the battle with MSU's Lindsay Nochowicz continued with both locked up at five games each.  Wood pushed past and won the set 7-5 to clinch Cameron's first win over Midwestern State in three years.

Despite the finish, Cameron had to battle back from dropping two of its three doubles slots.  Alina Gorina and Zhenia Shviadok in the top-slot beat out No. 23 Eirini Kontaki and Nochowicz 8-3.

Cameron flexed is muscles in singles play with No. 19 Paula Gutierrez coming off the court first in the top-slot winning 6-0, 6-3 over No. 27 Madeline Schorlemmer.  Zhenia Shviadok came off the court next with a 6-1, 6-1 in her three-singles spot to put CU up 3-2 overall.  Gorina pushed the Aggies to four points with a 6-3, 6-4 win in the two-slot with the Aggies needing to win just one. 

CU fell in the six and then four slot to even the match at four points apiece to set up the showdown for Wood.

Midwestern State (14-6, 1-1 LSC) saw its four match winning streak come to an end, while Cameron's winning streak will move up to six and they will go to 14-2 overall and 2-0 in LSC play.  The Aggies will play at Texas A&M-Kingsville on Friday with a win clinching CU their first LSC title.

Before their showdown with TAMUK, the Aggies will travel visit Austin, Texas on Thursday to face St. Edward's.
