BISHOP, Texas – The No. 17 Cameron women's tennis can call themselves Lone Star Conference Champions for the first time after an 8-1 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville on Friday.   

CU has finished in second place six times in the LSC regular season and ended Midwestern State's two year reign as LSC Champs.  The Aggies will be the top seed in the LSC Tournament which will be held on April 29-30 in Wichita Falls, Texas .   

The Aggies set the bar early with a full doubles sweep for the ninth time this season. Alina Gorina and Zhenia Shviadok went 8-0 in the top-slot for their sixth win in a row.   

In singles play, Gorina took her first win in CU's top-slot 6-4, 6-0 for her sixth singles win in a row,  Samantha Wood won in the four-slot 6-0, 6-1 for her seventh win in a row, and Magdalena Kovinic played her first match since February picking up a 7-6, 7-6 in the six-slot. 

The win for CU is their eighth in a row and will move them to 15-2 overall and 3-0 in LSC play; TAMUK will fall to 5-12 and 0-1 in league action. 

Cameron will have a day off and on Sunday they will play St. Mary's; the match will have significant importance in the NCAA South Central Region with St. Mary's ranked first and the Aggies second in last week's poll.
