NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas –  The No. 17 Aggies saw their eight match winning streak come to an end on Sunday at the hands of No. 12 St. Mary's, 5-1, in a top-20 showdown at the John Newcombe Tennis Ranch.Â
Sunday's match had an important implication for both teams with the Rattlers sitting at No. 1 in last week's NCAA South Central Regional ranking and the Aggies at No. 2. Â A CU win would have gave them a solid argument to leap to the top of the regional poll. Â
Instead with the loss, the Aggies will fall to 16-3 overall and St. Mary's holding the same record. Â
In doubles, the Aggies took the top-spot with
Alina Gorina and
Zhenia Shviadok winning 8-6 over the regions No. 1 ranked doubles pairing. Â However, CU would drop their other two doubles slots. Â
Cameron never could recover in singles and they dropped their two, four, and six slots to allow StMU to clinch the win. Â When play was suspended, No. 19
Paula Gutierrez was edging No. 44 Jamie Lee Denton 6-2, 0-6, 2-1 in the top-singles slot.Â
The Aggies will close out their regular season with three matches in Lawton starting on April 21 with UA-Fort Smith.
