LAWTON –  Cameron would fall short of Angelo State 3-1 in their series opener on Saturday. While the Aggies recorded one more hit than the Rams with nine, Cameron did not cross the plate again following the first inning.

In the opening frame, Cameron got on the board first as
Tyler McKinzie brought in
Nate Hale on an RBI double, scoring unearned as Hale advanced into scoring position on a passed ball.

In the third inning, ASU tied the game by plating an unearned run off an RBI single and took the 2-1 lead scoring on a sacrifice ground out. The Rams furthered their advantage to 3-1 in the seventh on an RBI double.

Cameron had a runner in scoring position in the ninth inning with two outs, but ASU ended the game getting the final out on a fielder's choice.

Cody Knight came off the bench batting 2 for 2 at the plate while
Russ Colgan and
Tyler McKinzie each doubled on the game.

Dirk Masters (2-5) was charged with the loss on the mound following six innings of work where he struck out nine ASU batters but allowed five hits and one earned run of two total.
Tyler Abrego appeared in the seventh inning allowing one run and three hits.

Cameron drops to 26-18 overall and 14-16 in the Lone Star Conference while ASU moves to 28-17 and 21-9 in the league.

The Aggies resume action against ASU on Sunday with a 1 p.m. double header start.
