PORTALES, New Mexico – With a 10-2 victory over Eastern New Mexico on Friday night, the Aggies have clinched a spot in the Lone Star Conference tournament for the seventh time in program history and first since 2011.
Friday night's victory puts the Aggies two games ahead of Tarleton State for the fourth and final spot in the LSC. Cameron also has the advantage over TSU by winning the seven game season series over the Texans in the event there were a tie.
CU advances to 28-19 overall and 16-17 in the Lone Star Conference.
Cameron out-hit the Greyhounds ten to seven with two doubles. ENMU had five errors on the game compared to CU's two.
Nate Hale led the Aggies at the plate with a 3 for 4 outing where he batted in three runs and crossed the plate four times himself in addition to stealing a base.
Tyler Cook also recorded 3 RBI, going a perfect 2 for 2 on the night.
Cameron got on the board first in the opening frame as
Jonathan Reyes singled to shortstop, and Hale scored on a Greyhound throwing error. The Aggies would further their advantage to 7-0 in the second by cycling through their lineup for five hits and six runs.
By the top of the third CU held a 9-0 edge and ENMU remained hitless until the fourth inning as they recorded two and would score on a bases loaded walk and sacrifice fly, 9-2.
CU's starter
Dirk Masters (3-5) earned the win on the mound after pitching six innings where he allowed four hits and two runs while striking out three.
Andrew Garza and
Adam Bosch also made appearances, holding the Greyhounds scoreless through the remaining three innings.
Cameron will conclude regular season play with a 1 p.m. doubleheader start on Saturday.
